Opportunities in Accounting

The field of accounting is the perfect for people who like structure and organization.  Lone Star College-Kingwood offers an accounting certificate which will prepare students to seek a position in as little as one year.

"There are a wide range of positions in accounting with jobs at every level.  Businesses are always looking for qualified candidates to help them run their business," says Linda Holcomb, chair of the business and professional office program.

Some of the positions available to accounting students include accounts receivable clerk, financial clerk, bookkeeper, payroll clerk and staff accountant.  Accounting offers the opportunity to get started in a career at a good salary and work your way up in a company.

"Accounting is not all about numbers either," says Holcomb.  "It's really more about record keeping.  Those people who are very structured, organized and like to do things the same way all the time are perfect candidates for accounting positions."
