The staff of Lone Star College-Kingwood recently recognized three of its own for outstanding service.
Nominees for the college's Staff Excellence Award are chosen by their colleagues from a ballot of all full-time employees who have been with the college at least one year. Awards are given out annually at the college's January In-Service.
The three winners of the staff excellence awards for 2007 are: Kathy Adkins, Garrick Joubert and Torris Badger.
Kathy Adkins has worked at Lone Star College-Kingwood for ten years. The last seven years she has been in the admissions office and currently serves as the Assistant Director of Admissions.
"As I like to tell people I only see ‘happy' students which is when they are beginning their college career and when they are completing it. It sounds very corny, but I have a great job and I love what I do every day."
Working as a video producer at the college's television station, LSC-TV, for the last four years, Garrick Joubert says he's not a big fan of the limelight but truly appreciates the recognition.
"I really enjoy working here at LSC-Kingwood. When I arrived here on campus just a little over four years ago, the faculty and staff welcomed me with open arms. That makes it just a little easier to get out of bed and come to work every day."
He's been with the college for 15 years and you'll never find him without a smile on his face. Torris Badger, in shipping and receiving, is proud to say this is his fourth win. "Since I know everyone on campus and see them regularly, maybe I have an advantage, but I was really happy to hear my name-again."
He says, "The best part about working at Lone Star College-Kingwood is the people."
