Lone Star College-Kingwood will display images from nineteen photographers as part of the internationally known FotoFest Houston 2008.
FotoFest is an international photographic arts and education organization based in Houston, Texas. Since the first Biennial of Photography and photo-related art exhibition in 1986, FotoFest has held ten exhibitions. FotoFest invites museums, commercial galleries, non-profit organizations, artist-run spaces, corporate spaces and retail establishments to be Participating Spaces in exhibiting photographic images.
The theme for this year's show is Transformations and LSC-Kingwood's Interim Art Gallery Director, Kelley Revuelto says she didn't dictate what that meant; instead asking photographers to interpret it their own way. "I felt that this would result in an exciting show with much variety, which it will prove to be."
The artists' work on display will include both novice and established professionals from Texas and Louisiana. The nineteen artists are Angela Duncan, Andy Bloxham, Beau Comeaux, Britt Ragsdale, Paul Abbott, Christian Cutler, Frank Hamrick, Joy Erb, John Keedy, Janet Pritchard, Leah Gose, Lisa Qualls, Morison Kelley, Nate Larson, Rebekah Allen, Kiriko Shirobayashi, Tala Vahabzadeh, Teresa Rafadi, and Suzanne Banning.
The show will be juried by Clint Willour, Curator of the Galveston Arts Center for the past seventeen years. He is active on boards of numerous arts organizations in Texas and has served as a juror for over sixty competitions in a thirty plus year career. He curates 24 exhibitions per year in Galveston and serves regularly as a guest curator for institutions throughout the state of Texas and beyond. He is known for the multi-disciplinary focus of his taste.
The exhibit will run April 1 - 20. An opening reception will be held Tuesday, April 1 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. with many of the featured photographers present.
The LSC-Kingwood art gallery is located in the Student Center/Fine Arts Building and open Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 12:30 - 5 p.m.; and Friday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. The community is welcome to attend this free exhibition.
