LSCS spring job fair to connect job seekers with employers

(March 31, 2011) –Lone Star College System will be hosting its annual Community and Careers Job Fair on Wednesday, April 20, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Conference Center at  Lone Star College-University Park, located at 20515 SH249.

This event will provide an opportunity for students and community job seekers to connect with potential employers. Last year more than 500 job seekers sought out the 40 employers who were on hand to discuss employment opportunities within their organizations, benefits, job requirements, skills being sought, prerequisites and more. These employers will be in one convenient location.

“This is the second year that the Lone Star College Career Services Council has partnered with Lone Star College Veteran’s Affairs to promote a community job fair to boost employment opportunities for our veterans, students and community members,” noted Dr. Sarah David, director of LSCS Career and Transition Services.  “We anticipate an even larger event with many businesses expected to be looking for employees with a wide variety of work experience and skill sets.”

Job seekers are advised to bring several copies of their resumes which can be left with the employers. They are also encouraged to dress professionally as on-site interviews may take place.

Sponsors of the event include Schlumberger, JobSparx, Tenet Health and the University of Houston.

Participating employers include Lone Star College System, City of Houston, Texas Department of Public Safety, Dyna-Drill Technology, Plastipak Packaging, Verizon Wireless, Randalls, Best Buy, Royal Purple, Postnet, Business Remedy, Regions Financial, First Community Credit Union, TNT Direct Sales Group, GE Oil & Gas (Vetco Gray), REI, Adhesive Services Company, Pappas Restaurants, U.S. Food Services, AFLAC, Workforce Solutions, IBC Bank, Taco Bell, Gardner Denver, Inkjet, PeopleScout (Asurion), Modern Woodman of America, Wells Fargo, Tri-County Services, Caldwell Banker, Oceaneering and more.
