Lone Star College marketing, communications team garners national awards

HOUSTON (May 11, 2011) - The Lone Star College System Marketing and Communications team is making a big splash in the industry this award season.

Lone Star College was recognized by the Higher Education Marketing Report as a winner of multiple awards in the 26th annual Education Advertising Awards contest. The LSCS website was a Gold Award winner with its innovative design and robust content. LSCS was also recognized with a Silver Award for its Houston Airport System advertising displays and a Bronze Award for a print advertisement that appeared in U.S. News & World Report.

The Higher Education Marketing Report awards are considered the largest and most prestigious educational advertising competition in the nation, and this year it fielded more than 2,500 entries from 1,000 colleges, universities and secondary schools from all 50 states and several foreign countries.

The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations presented LSCS with two Paragon Awards – the council’s highest recognition – during the recent national conference that was held in Philadelphia.

The first Paragon Award is for the category of online marketing and advertising. LSCS was recognized for excellence in graphic design and overall appeal for its Perkins grant online “gender-bending” campaign. The concept was to target workforce program prospects and create program awareness and gender “equality” in non-traditional fields, like nursing and welding.

The second Paragon Award was in the category of printed folders. The college was recognized for excellence in graphic design and overall appeal for its Lone Star Corporate College sales piece that is being used for customized corporate training.

The NCMPR Paragon awards recognize achievement in communications at community and technical colleges. It is the only national competition of its kind that exclusively honors excellence among marketing and public relations professionals at two-year colleges.

With more than 69,000 students in credit classes for spring 2011, and a total enrollment of more than 85,000, Lone Star College System is the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area, and the fastest-growing community college system in Texas. Dr. Richard Carpenter is the chancellor of LSCS, which consists of five colleges including LSC-CyFair, LSC-Kingwood, LSC-Montgomery, LSC-North Harris, and LSC-Tomball, six centers, LSC-University Park, LSC-University Center at Montgomery, LSC-University Center at University Park, Lone Star Corporate College, and LSC-Online.
