You're sure to recognize and love the music in the upcoming concert Stage, Screen and Swing presented by the Kingwood Pops Orchestra (KPO).
Founded in 1994, Kingwood Pops Orchestra is a non-profit organization made up of approximately 55 talented professional and semi-professional musicians from all over the Houston area. They perform four concerts a year at the Nathaniel Center in Kingwood, playing a wide variety of music from every genre, including classical, pop standards, jazz, Broadway, TV and movies, swing and even Big Band.
Gary Liebst has been conducting the Kingwood Pops Orchestra since 1998. He is Dean of Visual, Applied and Performing Arts at Lone Star College-North Harris and says, "As we complete our fourteenth season I am glad to know that the KPO continues to be committed to its original mission of providing quality music that the whole family can enjoy. We are thankful to our patrons for their continued support as the KPO audience and orchestra continue to grow."
Stage, Screen and Swing is a greatest hits performance of the orchestra says Liebst. "Our audiences tell us that their favorite concerts have included hits from Broadway, Hollywood and American jazz and that is exactly the music that will be performed on May 23 and 24."
The evening will begin with Broadway favorites. Highlights from West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma and My Fair Lady will delight audience members. Switching to screen notables, KPO will perform the Raiders March, Over the Rainbow, Star Wars Epic Part II and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Concluding the evening, jazz favorites including Take the "A" Train and Rhapsody in Blue will send patrons home with their toes tapping.
There will be two chances to catch this fun-filled event on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24, 2008. Both performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Nathaniel Center on Russell Palmer Road in Kingwood.
All KPO performances are open to the public. Tickets may be purchased at the official box office at HEB Pantry Foods on Kingwood Drive or by phone, 281-319-POPS (281-319-7677).
