LSC-Kingwood Honors Exemplary Students

Lone Star College-Kingwood recently hosted a banquet to recognize students who have demonstrated the traits to make them successful as students and beyond.

Dr. Linda Stegall, LSC-Kingwood president, was one of the evening's presenters and said, "This is one of my favorite events of the year because we get to see the best of the best from Lone Star College-Kingwood."

Each of the students recognized is unique in their academic ambitions, their heritage, and their place in life, yet they all share the same desire to succeed and contribute not only to their school but their community.

Students who received awards in the academic fields were chosen by their professors based on grades and outstanding qualities.  Club sponsors or advisors chose the student or students from their group that they consider the most outstanding based on involvement, commitment and other factors.

John Turner, Program Manager for Student Activities says, "Regarding the club and organization awards, these students are the embodiment of what the clubs are all about.  They are typically very devoted to making the clubs run and they exhibit leadership in every way.  It's my good fortune to be able to get to know nearly every recipient in this category, because they not only participate in their clubs and organizations, but also in campus-wide student activities as well."

"The choices for outstanding students are made not only for their academic achievements but often for additional traits they exemplify. Persistence, tenacity in the face of challenges, diligence and creativity are often what makes them stand out.  It is these traits that make me especially proud of the group of students chosen for the 2007-08 awards," said Dr. Elizabeth Chapman, Dean of Business, Technology and Social Science.

Compliments were plentiful as award recipients were acknowledged for their dedication, contributions, motivation and enthusiasm.

Brennan Alexander received an award for her work in Arts and Humanities.  She said, "It was really unexpected. I didn't even know there was such a thing as an Outstanding Student Award so when my teacher handed me the invitation that said I had been nominated I was surprised and honored to have even been thought of."

In her closing remarks of the evening, Nadine Jenkins, Dean of Student Development, congratulated all of the students.

"Your accomplishments have been acknowledged and they are all well deserved.  But while the certificates and plaques have been given, they are only symbols.  The real achievement is in you, with you.  The real merit is the knowledge, experience and the accomplishments that you have made.  We celebrate you and applaud you. We know that your achievements are all from the hard work you have done and we wish you continued success."
