LSC-Kingwood's Own Talented Faculty Display Their Art

Published on: September 03, 2008

Works in ceramics, glass, photography and painting will be showcased at the Fall Faculty Art Show at Lone Star College-Kingwood.

Kris Larson, new director of the LSC-Kingwood Art Gallery, says, "I'm excited for the community to come and see the talent and diversity of our faculty.  I think they'll be surprised by the caliber of work."

Mari Omori, a full-time professor of art at LSC-Kingwood, is a nationally recognized artist.  Her work has been seen in galleries in Florida, California, Colorado, Texas and Oregon, and even in her native Japan.  She explores the notion of space in her work often working with non-traditional mediums.  To learn more about her, visit at www.mariomori.com.

Artist, museum director and university professor Joe Kagel, brings a lifetime of experience to his work.  His work has been exhibited in over 600 national and international venues and between 2000 and 2006 he was invited to go to the Republic of Georgia and Mongolia as Artist in Residence and as Professor in Residence as a Fulbright Scholar and Fulbright Senior Specialist.  He currently teaches Art History and Art Appreciation at LSC-Kingwood.

As a famous cartoonist, Gerard Baldwin brings a bit of whimsy to the show.  He became known as an animator and director of such shows as "The Smurfs," "Mr. Magoo," "Rocky and Bullwinkle," "George of the Jungle," and many others.  He continues to create one-of-a-kind originals of the characters that made him famous.  See examples of his work at www.gerardbladwin.com.

Other talented faculty participating in the show include Erich Schmalhorst, Melanie Loew, Cory Cryer, Divya Murthy and Julon Pinkston.

The exhibition will run from Sept. 9 through Sept. 25 with an opening reception on Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The show and opening reception are free and open to the public.  The Art Gallery is located in the Student Center/Fine Arts Building and their hours are Monday through Friday 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.   The Art Gallery is closed on the weekends.
