The Community Chamber of Commerce of East Montgomery County named Pat Chandler 2011 Volunteer of the Year at a recent luncheon. Chandler is program manager in the Continuing Education department at Lone Star College-Kingwood.
“I was honored to be named Volunteer of the Year by the chamber. I’m just one of many who give my time and resources to support our community and make it a better place to live,” Chandler said. “I volunteer with the chamber because I believe in its mission to promote the economic wellbeing and quality of life in East Montgomery County.”
Volunteering with the chamber for seven years, Chandler has chaired the Membership Committee, the annual Golf Tournament and provided teams made up of senior adults from the Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) for the chamber’s yearly Spelling Bee fundraiser. In addition to volunteering with the chamber, Chandler also provides support through visitations for senior adults at Strawbridge United Methodist Church.
The honoree said that volunteering her time allows her to assist community organizations who have limited staff to perform all the activities that it provides.
“I have learned through many individuals who volunteer at ALL that a spirit of sacrificial giving whether through time, talent or other resources is a rewarding experience,” she said. “As an employee of a community college, we have an opportunity to be community leaders and set an example for others in the community to also serve.”
Chandler has been with LSC-Kingwood since 1993. During her tenure, she was program manager of Contract Training for 10 years prior to her current position.
