The music department of Lone Star College-Kingwood offers several opportunities to experience the joy of the holiday season through music.
On Thursday, December 4, the Community Symphonic Band and the Chamber Singers will give a free concert at LSC-Kingwood. This concert will get you in the holiday spirit with plenty of seasonal favorites, including a medley of songs from the movie "Home Alone" and a new work by Randol Alan Bass entitled "Gloria." The men's choir will sing Russian composer Chesnokov's "Salvation is Created." The concert will be held in the theatre in the Student Center/Fine Arts Building. On Saturday, December 6 at 4:30 p.m. enjoy an evening of festive music while sitting beneath the stars when the Kingwood Big Band presents Holiday at the Harbor. With the beautiful Kings Harbor Christmas tree as a backdrop, this concert is quickly becoming an annual favorite. The Kingwood Big Band is a group of both amateur and professional musicians from the college and community and is led by LSC-Kingwood band director James Stubbs. This fun, casual concert is free and sure to be fun for the whole family. Kings Harbor is located on Kingwood Drive, just south of West Lake Houston Parkway. Ending with a bit of holiday tradition, the Kingwood Chorale will present Handel's "Messiah" on Saturday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kingwood United Methodist Church located at 1799 Woodland Hills Drive, Kingwood, TX 77339. The Kingwood Chorale is comprised of community members and LSC-Kingwood students who must audition to be selected. The Chorale recently celebrated its twentieth year and is led by Dr. Todd Miller, professor of music at LSC-Kingwood. Tickets will be available at the door.
