Published on: December 03, 2008Continuing its 20th Anniversary Celebration season, the Kingwood Chorale and Chamber Orchestra will perform Messiah, Handel's beloved masterpiece at the Kingwood United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Messiah is a perennial favorite and a holiday tradition for concert goers in December. The Kingwood Chorale and Chamber Orchestra have a long history with the popular masterpiece. Conductor Todd Miller explains, "Messiah was performed in the first year of the chorale's existence and we wanted to celebrate 20 years by recreating some of the magic of that first year." In the early days the chorale performed Messiah several times at Kingwood United Methodist Church and the church graciously agreed to host this special 20th anniversary performance.
The performance will be an abbreviated version and will last under two hours. "We have left most of the Christmas portion intact," said Miller, but the beloved "Hallelujah" chorus and the final "Amen" chorus from the other parts of the work will also be performed. Another special feature of this performance is the use of singers from the chorale for Messiah's solos. "We have so many good singers in the chorale and it is nice to offer them the chance to perform with a professional orchestra for their friends and family in the community."
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students and available at Kroger Northpark, HEB Kingwood and at the door the night of the event. Kingwood United Methodist Church is located at 1799 Woodland Hills Drive, Kingwood, TX 77339.
Also at the concert will be a raffle drawing for a London weekend for two courtesy of Encore Tours. Proceeds from this drawing will go directly towards defraying expenses for music students to travel to Europe for a Music Appreciation tour in May. Tickets can be purchased before the concert or during intermission. They are $10 for one ticket or 3 tickets for $20.
