LSC-Kingwood’s Theatre Department to hold auditions, fundraiser

Published on: June 07, 2012

Toe-tapping performances and quality entertainment are sure to draw a big crowd to Lone Star College-Kingwood’s third Kingwood Kabaret this summer.

A scholarship for the college’s Theatre Department, the Kingwood Kabaret is an intimate evening of entertainment that consists of jazz standards and classic Broadway show tunes presented in a cabaret setting. In addition to enjoying hours of top-quality vocal entertainment, the evening also includes beverages and dessert.

“The community is invited to attend. Kingwood Kabaret is just an evening in which they can enjoy their friends’ company and listen to great music,” said Eric Skiles, artistic director of Theatre at LSC-Kingwood.

After a two-year hiatus due to construction, the Theatre Department is looking for performers to audition on June 18 and 19 from 6-9 p.m. in the college’s Black Box Theatre in the Performing Arts Center. Prospective vocalists are asked to prepare two songs of contrasting styles, genres and tempos. Both songs must fit in the theme “Nothing but the Classics” meaning jazz standards and Broadway show tunes that are pre-1970.

“Individuals selected will represent LSC-Kingwood students, community members and professional vocalists from the greater Houston area,” Skiles said.

Once auditions and rehearsals are completed, the Kingwood Kabaret will be held June 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $20 per person and reservations are required.

“The Kingwood Kabaret is something very unique for the Kingwood area and has consistently been a sell-out event,” he said. “We are very pleased to offer this event because it helps our students achieve their dreams by providing financial support for their theatre studies.”
