To comply with the law, Lone Star College System is partnering with Travelax Travel Health Clinic to provide reduced cost meningitis vaccinations at LSC-Kingwood.
According to Texas law, most incoming college students have to be vaccinated against bacterial meningitis or provide an exemption request declining the vaccine. Senate Bill 1107 amends current Texas law requiring proof of Bacterial Meningitis vaccination at least 10 days before attending classes.
Current LSC-Kingwood students who registered early for fall classes must have proof of vaccination or an exception submitted by Aug. 11. New students registering for fall semester classes after Aug. 11 must submitpayment and proof of vaccinationor an exception when they register for classes.
The meningitis clinicswill be set up at LSC-Kingwood’s Student-Conference Center on July 23 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.,July 26 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.,Aug. 2 from 1-5 p.m.and on Aug. 28 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. A clinic will also take place on Aug. 7 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center room 114B.
Vaccinations for students over age 18 cost $115. Students age 18 and under who are uninsured or underinsured will receive vaccinations for $14 through Texas Vaccines for Children. Parent permission via signature is required for students under 18 and all students must bring a valid picture ID with them to the clinic. Travelvax Travel Health Clinic will provide students with the Magnus proof of vaccination forms as they leave the clinic.
