HOUSTON (Aug. 17, 2012) – Various art pieces will be on display at Lone Star College-Kingwood’s annual Faculty Art Show. The show will run from Aug. 27-Sept. 20 in the college’s Fine Arts Gallery.
The Faculty Art Show is designed to showcase recent work of current faculty members and to promote art classes offered at LSC-Kingwood. A majority of art pieces will be for sale and a portion of the proceeds will go toward the Art Scholarship Fund to be presented at the juried Student Art Show in summer 2013.
“The art show gives our prolific faculty members a chance to display new work in a wide-range media and provides a connection with a wide variety of studio art courses and instructors that we have here,” said Kris Larson, gallery coordinator. “This fall, we are introducing two new adjunct professors, Adela Andea and Scott Rosenberg.”
Works at this year’s Faculty Art Show will include painting, drawing, installations, ceramics, collage and photography. In addition to Andea and Rosenberg other professors who will showcase their pieces are Gerard Baldwin, Jay Calder, Cory Cryer, Joe Kagle, Divya Murthy, Mari Omori, Julon Pinkston, Rebecca Riley and Eric Schmalhorst.
During the art show, professors Andea and Kagle will give artists talks from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Andea will speak on Sept. 5 about transforming interior spaces to create a full sensory experience. On Sept. 12, Kagle invites viewers to occupy the “creative space” he leaves open in his work.
“This richly varied show engages students and the public alike as it draws attention to the many avenues of possibility that are open to visual artists,” Larson said.
LSC-Kingwood’s Fine Arts Gallery is located in the Performing Arts Center. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and is closed on the weekends. For more information on the Faculty Art Show or on future art exhibitions, contact Kris Larson at kc.artgallery@LoneStar.edu.
