|LSC-Kingwood’s Nursing Information Sessions will provide important information on the program and career.|
Lone Star College-Kingwood’s Nursing Department invites anyone interested in becoming a nurse to attend Nursing Information Sessions this fall. The sessions are on Sept. 4 at 1 p.m., Oct. 2 at 5 p.m., Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. and Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. in the Health Sciences Building.
“Our goal at each session is to inform students about the program and to adequately prepare them for the upcoming application period,” said Donna Spivey, nursing program director.
The Nursing Department offers a one-year intensive training program to become a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) and two rigorous options to become a registered nurse (RN). The Associate of Degree Nursing (ADN) is a two-year transition program and the Vocational Nurse/Paramedic is a one-year program. Graduates of the programs will be prepared to begin entry-level nursing.
“Students are able to work in various areas. We have many articulation agreements in place for students to seamlessly transition to a higher level degree,” Spivey said.
LVNs provide a wide-variety of essential patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician. They can pursue careers at hospitals, long-term facilities, clinics and other health care facilities. Registered nurses provide and coordinate care for patients in a variety of health care settings. Graduates of the ADN program can earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree through articulation agreements with Prairie View A&M University, University of Phoenix, The University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSC), Kaplan University, University of Houston at Victoria, Lamar University, The University of Texas at Arlington, Chamberlain College, Texas Tech University, Western Governors University, Grand Canyon University and University of Texas at Tyler.
