Lone Star College-CyFair’s 4N6 Speech Team recently earned a second-place overall sweepstakes trophy in the JV National Speech Tournament held at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas.
Competing against some of the best teams across the nation, Jonathon Walton, LSC-CyFair 4N6 Speech team president and Artur Tkachev, team special events coordinator, earned team points in 75% of their events.
Additionally, Walton and Tkachev were national finalists in Persuasive Speaking and After Dinner Speaking, respectively. Walton placed sixth in his final round of competition, while Tkachev placed fourth in his final round.
“This is the first national tournament that we have attended in more than five years,” said Patrick Barton, speech professor and speech team advisor. “This early success bodes well for the future of the 4N6 Speech Team.”
Don’t miss the April 1 public speaking contest this team will co-host with the Speech Communication Department as well as a speech showcase later this spring.
