Get your walk on with the Lone Star College-Montgomery
Wellness Center and the local Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association chapter, and join thousands of walkers who are spreading awareness, raising funds for care services, and bringing hope to people living with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The ALS walk will be held at the Wet Campus Drive parking lot on the LSC-Montgomery campus Saturday, November 1. Registration will start at 9 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10 a.m. There is no cost for participation, but donations are greatly appreciated.

ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The disease causes muscle weakness, paralysis, and ultimately, respiratory failure. ALS most often strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70, and an estimated 450,000 people worldwide live with the disease.

“Having accepted the ALS ice bucket challenge at LSC-Montgomery, I feel strongly about this event,” said Dr. Austin Lane, president of LSC-Montgomery. “I encourage everyone to come out in support of a tremendous association raising money and awareness for Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The LSC-Montgomery Wellness Center allows faculty, staff, students and the community the opportunity to improve health and quality of life with its unique programming. The center offers a fully equipped, professionally staffed exercise facility, and a variety of classes and workshops to suit any wellness needs.

“We just want everyone that can to come out, walk, and have a great time,” said Scott Hankosky, instructional specialist for the Wellness Center at LSC-Montgomery. “Everyone who is representing LSC-Montgomery is asked to wear his or her LSC-Montgomery gear.  We will do a team picture to display how we represent our school.”
