Lone Star College recognized as a Military Friendly® School

Lone Star College has been designated a 2016 Military Friendly® School for the third year in a row.

LSC was selected from a nationwide list of more than 10,000 schools by Victory Media, a veteran-owned business connecting the military and civilian worlds.

“Lone Star College is committed to ensuring our veterans and their families have the support needed to make the transition from the military to a civilian life,” said Stephen C. The Military Friendly® School list is published each year in G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse magazines, both properties of Victory Media. The list features only the top 15 percent of schools nationwide that are recognized for doing the most to support veteran students.

“Lone Star College has many programs such as College Credit for Heroes that are specifically geared toward helping vets access best in class post-secondary education,” said Steven Hall, LSC system director, veteran affairs, veteran services. “As a 25-year Air Force veteran, I can appreciate the challenges vets face when returning to civilian life and am proud of the commitment Lone Star College has made to fulfilling the needs of our military affiliate students.”

LSC also participates in the College Credit for Heroes program, launched by former Texas Gov. Rick Perry in 2012, which works to maximize college credits awarded to active military members and veterans for their military experience. Among other milestones, the program has produced streamlined degree paths and workforce certificates for veterans to expedite their transition into the Texas workforce.

In addition, LSC partners with the Texas Veterans Commission and has an employment representative dedicated to LSC veteran students. LSC also offers career and financial aid counseling, along with a number of student groups for veterans on its campuses.
