Lone Star College designated Top 25 College for Hispanics

The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine has named Lone Star College a Top 25 College for Hispanics. LSC was ranked third in the nation for the number of Hispanic students enrolled and was ranked third for the number of associate degrees awarded in 2014.

“Lone Star College is committed to helping all students succeed,” said Dr. Stephen C. Head, LSC chancellor. “As we continue to see our Hispanic student population grow, we will continue to ensure they have the right tools to improve their lives and help our community remain strong.”

The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education (HO) is a national monthly magazine rooted in serving the unique needs of the Hispanic community in higher education.

“Students earning degrees and certificates validate the hard work our faculty and staff do to make sure all Lone Star College students have the very best instruction in the nation,” said Head.

Since fall 2005, the LSC Hispanic student population has risen 27 percent, growing from 8,832 to 30,775 in fall 2015.

LSC was also recognized by Community College Week magazine for ranking third among community colleges nationwide in the 2015 list for the number of Hispanic students receiving their associate degrees. 1,334 Hispanic graduates, representing 30 percent of the total LSC graduates earned their associate degree in 2013-2014, a 15 percent increase over degrees awarded in 2012-13.

In addition, LSC has partnered with private and public organizations to participate in the 2015 White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. A local investment of nearly $11 million in the Houston area will be used to further support and advance the educational attainment of Hispanics from “cradle-to-career”.
