Jazz concert features exciting lineup at Lone Star College-Montgomery

Let the music of the Lone Star College-Montgomery Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo transport you back to a simpler time with hits like “A String of Pearls” at a fall concert Thursday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m. at LSC-Montgomery’s state-of-the-art Recital Hall (building H). The event kicks off all music performances this semester.

“Attendees will hear jazz standards and recent compositions, including favorites from the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Count Basie Orchestra; two ballads; basic blues; and a couple Latin charts that will get the toes tapping,” said Cristina Mendoza, director of bands.

The groups have been preparing since the semester started. Students, faculty, staff and community members auditioned for their spots on the Ensemble and Combo. While focusing on jazz written in a big band tradition, participants explore all styles including swing, rock, funk, and bebop.

“The concert will feature strong, vibrant and memorable sets,” said Mendoza. “Each song has its own special style and sound. Whether you’re a seasoned listener or this is your first concert, you will enjoy relaxing, listening to the music and letting it run through you. I am thrilled and excited for the community to come out and hear us play.”
