LSC-North Harris Speech and Debate team starts season with big wins

HOUSTON (October 1, 2018) – The Lone Star College-North Harris Speech and Debate Team recently attended its first tournaments of the season, the Hill Country Swing, parts 1 and 2, at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.

“This was the 30th anniversary of the Hill Country Swing Speech and Debate Tournament and a spectacular start to our season,” said Professor Wade Hescht, Speech and Debate coach. “I am looking forward to seeing what this squad of mostly freshmen can accomplish this year.”

Out of 10 Texas and Arizona colleges in attendance, LSC-North Harris’ team came home with impressive results:

Hill Country Swing, pt. 1 – Saturday, Sept. 22

Quincy Gentry – 1st Place in Poetry Interpretation

  • Tierra Edmonds – 2nd Place in Dramatic Interpretation
  • Gentry and Edmonds – 2nd Place in Duo Interpretation
  • Darian Jackson – 5th Place in Poetry Interpretation

Hill Country Swing, pt. 2 – Sunday, Sept. 23.

  • Quincy Gentry – 1st Place in Poetry Interpretation
  • Gentry and Edmonds – 1st Place in Duo Interpretation
  • Darian Jackson – 4th Place in Poetry Interpretation

Quincy Gentry was also recognized as the Top Overall Speaker for the entire weekend.
