LSC-Tomball Alumnus Honors Her Daughter’s Life by Celebrating Passion for Animals

About four years ago, Debbie Conner’s daughter, Juliane, passed away unexpectedly.  Juliane had a true passion for life and was celebrated for opening her heart and home to many abandoned, sick, homeless, and injured animals.  Searching for a way to honor Juliane’s life and legacy, Debbie’s friends and college classmates, launched the first annual Juliane’s Compassion for Critters 5K Fun Run and 1K Dog Walk.  And this year, they are hosting it again at Tomball High School where Juliane was a cheerleader, involved in Student Council and served in many other capacities.

The second annual Juliane’s Compassion for Critters 5K Fun Run and 1K Dog Walk will be held on Saturday, November 10, beginning with registration at 7:30 that morning.  The non-timed 5K starts at 9:00 a.m. and the run and/or walk 1K starts at 10:00 a.m.  Entrants can participate individually or with friends and family, and/or with a furry companion.

Following the 1K, family entertainment continues with raffle drawings for fabulous baskets full of prizes, fun activities for the kids, exhibitor booths, crafts, a bake sale, and food trucks offering up savory fare.

“Creating this living memorial, Juliane’s Compassion for Critters Fun Run, energizes and motivates me to inspire family, friends and complete strangers to continue the meaningful work that I know Juliane would be doing if she had lived on,” said Debbie Conner, who is a graduate of the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program at Lone Star College-Tomball. She then added as if speaking on behalf of her daughter,” Rescue, Foster, Love, Adopt homeless animals.”

Ms. Conner and her dog Rocky will attend the Fun Run and help welcome guests.  And since Rocky is a therapy dog, they’ll take part in activities geared for children with special needs

All the money raised through registrations, donations, merchandise sales and purchases on the day of the event, will go to Texas Animal Society to continue Juliane's mission of helping animals get the care and loving homes they deserve.

Advance registration prices until November 9, are Adults $35, Youth $25 for the 5K run; Adults $30 and Youth $20 for the 1K.  For both the 5K and 1K its Adults $60 and Youth $40.  Note that the registration fee does not include an event t-shirt.  For registration on the day of the event, add five dollars to the individual races and ten dollars to the combined races.
