TOMBALL, TX:  SkillsUSA Texas, Secondary Division will hold its 2019 District 8 competition in Electronics and Information Technology at Lone Star College-Creekside Center on Friday, February 8, 2019.  High school students will take part in the competition. The LSC-Creekside Center is located at 8747 West New Harmony Trail in the Creekside area of The Woodlands.  Last year’s District 8 competition brought about the State Champions in Internetworking, Computer Programming, and Electronics.

SkillsUSA Texas is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. SkillsUSA helps each student excel in leadership skills, technical and engineering skills, STEM and occupationally related skills in 12 separate cluster areas. All students in Career and Technical Education programs are eligible for membership.

The first place winners at district will move on to the state contest in Corpus Christi on April 4-7.  State first place winners move on to Nationals in Louisville Kentucky on June 24-28.  The first place winners of certain contests will move on to internationals in Kazan, Russia on August 22-27.  As the preliminary numbers suggest, we will be holding about six competitions in the Electronics and IT areas.

SkillsUSA offers local, state, and national opportunities for students to learn and practice personal, workplace and technical skills. These three components comprise the SkillsUSA Framework, a blueprint for career readiness. Local chapters conduct a full program of work and many students also attend a district or state conference. At the SkillsUSA Championships, more than 6,000 students compete in 100 occupational and leadership skill areas each June. These national technical competitions help establish industry standards for job skill training and entry-level workers. SkillsUSA is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a successful model of employer-driven youth development training.
