L.I.F.E. Workshops are Rockin’ and Rollin’ this August

LIFE WorkshopsIt’s time for a little rock and roll with Woodstock anniversary and song workshops as well as down-home dishes and health tips this August at Lone Star College-CyFair.

The free Learning, Inspiration, Friendship and Enrichment (L.I.F.E.) programs are held Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the library (LRNC room 131 unless otherwise noted) at 9191 Barker Cypress.

  • August 7 — How to Write a Rock Song
    Celebrating Woodstock’s 50th anniversary, August 15-18, 1969, Scott Furtwengler, rock band lead singer and songwriter, gives us tips on how to write a rockin’ song.
     
  • August 14 — Comfort Food, American Style
    Our vibrant and diverse country has an amazing variety of cooking styles, ingredients, immigrant influence, and plain old Yankee ingenuity. We will prepare a few of our favorite down-home American dishes with the history behind them.
     
  • August 21 — Woodstock’s Greatest Hits
    Rock and roll historian Steve Davis focuses on performances that forever represented some artists’ careers: Sly, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and more. Steve takes an historian's look at the myth of Woodstock as well. Was it really all that it was cracked up to be when one examines the reality of those three days in August of 1969?
     
  • August 28 — Beyond WebMD: The Best of Consumer Health Online
    How do you distinguish between old wives’ tales or quackery and good science when it comes to your health? Librarian Lauren Dodd shows us where to find trustworthy, consumer-friendly information on topics such as drug information, lab tests, genetics, and more.
