Find Your Place at Lone Star College-North Harris

With countless options available in the world, finding your place after high school graduation can be difficult for some students. However, at Lone Star College-North Harris students continue to find the support and encouragement they need to achieve success and pursue their dreams.

Emerson Romero, a first-generation college student and May 2019 LSC-North Harris graduate, found his place through the help of faculty and staff.

“When I came to campus, it had that university feel without being big and scary,” he said.  “It was life-changing. Being a first-generation college student, I depended on the staff and faculty to be my mentors and guide me. They gave me the opportunity to be more involved in student organizations that allowed me to grow.

Over 50 percent of the LSC-North Harris students are minorities, including women. Rochelle Buss, a recent graduate, found her place through the “diverse, progressive and inclusive thinking that allows so many to further their education and dreams.”

“College isn’t just an education, it’s a place to find out who you are and who you want to become,” she said. “For me, Lone Star College-North Harris was that place, a place that believed in me and my success, a place where I belonged.

Aderonke Ayokanmbi came to LSC-North Harris as an international student. She took note of the special care and support provided by advisors and professors.

“They encouraged me to get involved on campus and helped me grow way beyond what I thought was possible,” she said. “I joined many student organizations that gave me the opportunity to interact with diverse students and hone my skills as a leader. Ultimately, my campus involvement helped me find out who I am and where I belong.”

LCS-North Harris has also recently opened a new center in the East Aldine community. Lone Star College-East Aldine Center, located at 2430 Aldine Mail Route Rd, will welcome its first students this semester, and help a new generation to find their place.

Registration for the fall 2019 semester continues until Monday, Aug 26, the first day of class.
