Lone Star College recognizes Oliverson, Holsey for helping underserved students

Texas Rep. Dr. Tom Oliverson and former Lone Star College Board of Trustees member Dr. David Holsey were recently recognized for their contributions to the LSC lifePATH® program.

lifePATH® provides a unique opportunity for adult students with cognitive disabilities to learn the social and skill expectations needed in business, academics and personal relationships.

“This life-changing program would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Representative Oliverson and Dr. Holsey,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “Lone Star College has now expanded this very important program to include LSC-Montgomery to help even more students find success.”

Students are selected as part of a cohort. Each cohort remains together for all classes during the first two years. During years three and four, students can continue to take lifePATH® core classes as a cohort or enroll in general education credit courses. During their third year, lifePATH®  students also engage in a collaborative relationship with the Internship Coordinator, identifying their long-term career ambitions and selecting an internship that is beneficial in obtaining their career goals.

Rep. Oliverson, who represents House District 130, authored House Resolution 1149 requesting that the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas Legislature recognize the unique program and honor the students who have completed lifePATH® at Lone Star College.

lifePATH® was first offered at LSC-Tomball in fall 2016.

Holsey said he learned about this program while attending a conference as an LSC Board of Trustees member.

“I sat through a presentation and thought, I don’t care what it takes or what we have to do — we need to bring this to Lone Star College,” he said.
