In a tough economy, businesspeople sometimes need to go back to the basics.
The Continuing Education Division at Lone Star College-Kingwood will offer two classes this spring to help both the novice and veteran businessperson improve small business and sales skills.
In Small Business Boot Camp, students have the opportunity to run a business before they start a business under the expert eye of instructor Philip A. Gerber, a 40-year business and sales veteran, and author of Cut the B.S.: Learn to Sell Like a Professional in Just a Few Hours! The class provides a complete overview of small business operations, including product design and manufacturing; sales and marketing; finance; and personnel management. In the class, students act as CEO, marketing manager, business manager and operations manager to develop, market and sell a product of their own design.
"Most people go into business with a great idea and good intentions," said Gerber. "This course will give them the tools and experiences they must have to be successful."
Small Business Boot Camp begins Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at 6 p.m. and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 5, 2009.
Offered in conjunction with Small Business Boot Camp, Sales 101: Selling Skills and Promotion offers students a comprehensive sales training program designed for the beginner as well as the experienced salesperson. With interactive presentations and role-playing, students can gain new sales techniques to survive in a tough economy.
"Selling benefits to your customer is the key to success when money is tight," said Gerber.
Sales 101: Selling Skills and Promotion begins Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at 4 p.m. and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays through March 5, 2009.
Space is limited in both classes so students are encouraged to register as early as possible. Students must enroll before the first class meets.
