Percussion One Performs May 19

Percussion One, a high school drumline and percussion ensemble, will perform at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19 on the Lone Star College–CyFair Barker Cypress campus.

The concert will include musical compositions performed by P1: The Drumline, comprised of greater Houston area high school percussionists, as well as P1-13 Cy-Fair and P1-13 The Woodlands, comprised of area middle school and junior high students. Students will perform on snare drums, tenor drums, bass drums, marimbas and even trash cans.

In addition, there will be a silent auction that begins at 1 p.m. to raise funds to purchase musical equipment for this non-profit organization which Lamar Burkhalter founded in 1994.

This non-profit organization's goal is to teach school-aged percussionists to achieve high artistic standards stressing excellence in both education and performance as well as encourage self-confidence, self-discipline, responsibility and unity among diversity.

While Percussion One rehearses at Lone Star College–CyFair, the group performs citywide, statewide and worldwide. The group has performed for Houston area sports teams, including Aeros, Comets, Rockets, Texans and Astros, has toured in Russia and has performed in Germany.

General admission to the concert is $8. The concert will be held in the Main Stage Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts.
