The Lone Star College-Kingwood Chamber Singers will perform their spring evening concert, Thursday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center/Fine Arts Recital Hall on campus. The free concert will feature a wide range of works from Mozart to vocal jazz.
The Chamber Singers will perform works from their recent performance at Carnegie Hall as well as the music of Brahms and selections from the American songbook, including folk song arrangements and spirituals.
Several music majors will also be presenting solo piano, guitar, and vocal works during the concert.
“I am so proud of this choir and what they have achieved this year. It is an honor to conduct them,” said Dr. Todd Miller, conductor and Lone Star College-Kingwood artistic director.
Admission is free and all are welcome. The music program at Lone Star College-Kingwood is designed to prepare students to earn an Associate of Arts degree and transfer to a university. For these transfer students (whether or not they are music majors), the college offers core courses such as music fundamentals, theory and sight singing/ear training, and music appreciation. Lone Star College-Kingwood also offers class voice and class piano for the beginning student. More advanced students may select instruction in applied voice, piano, violin and viola. Students in private and class lessons perform in a recital at the end of each semester. Two vocal ensembles, the Chamber Singers and the Kingwood Chorale, perform at least twice each semester. In addition, the program offers a community education track which encourages local citizens to participate in music classes and performing ensembles, enhancing the skills of the students and the culture of the community.
