New LSC-Tomball President Announced

From Dr. Richard Carpenter, Chancellor:

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Susan Karr has accepted our offer to serve as the next president of LSC-Tomball.

Dr. Susan Karr has been the vice president of instruction at Ouachita Technical College, Malvern, Ark. for the past 16 years.  She has also served as dean of instruction at Indiana Technical College, East Central Region, Muncie, Ind., director of faculty grants and associate instructor at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the dean of planning, management and evaluation at North Arkansas Community College.

Dr. Karr holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of Maryland, a M.Ed. in human services management from Boston University and a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin Community College Leadership Program.

I would like to thank all the students, community members, faculty, staff and administrators who took the time to attend the candidate forums or watch the videos of the forums to provide me feedback on the candidate forums.  Your input was extremely valuable in helping me make my decision.

I would also like to acknowledge Deans Pat Stone, Frank Willingham and Eric Wildman, who served as hosts to all of the finalist candidates.  They were gracious ambassadors for LSC-Tomball and made our candidates feel welcome.  Many other members of the campus community helped facilitate the search process, including Belinda Griffin, Danielle Thornton, Jennifer Jauma   and Vickie Cassidy.  Thank you to Jen Murillo and her team for ensuring that the videos of the candidate forums were available online.

Dr. Walter Bumphus of the Association of Community College Trustees served as search consultant and did an excellent job managing the process and bringing forward an excellent slate of candidates for the search advisory committee to review.  Helen Clougherty served as search liaison and did outstanding work in managing the logistics of the process.

I extend my deepest appreciation to the search advisory committee--Dr. Katherine Persson, President LSC-Kingwood; Jane Simons, Professor Medical Office Technology and Faculty Senate President ; David Birch, Professor, Political Science; Whitney Washam, SGA Officer;  Deena Donaho, PSSA President;
Bruce Hillegeist, Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce; Dr. Larry Rideaux, Associate Vice Chancellor Student Success; and Dr. Robert Jones, Dean, Willow Chase Center  for their fine work and many hours in reviewing candidate applications, selecting candidates to invite to interview, interviewing semi-finalists candidates and recommending the finalists to bring on to campus.

My thanks to all of you who participated in the selection of Dr. Karr.  I know you will enthusiastically welcome her to the campus this summer.

Make LSC part of your story.
