Published on: April 15, 2009Offering students the chance to have their work critiqued and viewed by the public, the Student Art Show & Sale is back at LSC-Kingwood.
All of the student work was completed within the parameters of class assignments. The pieces are judged on technique, composition and narrative within the guidelines of each project. Work from all of the studio courses, including Design 1 & 3, Drawing, Painting, Photography and Ceramics will be represented.
The show was juried by Masumi Kataoka, a jewelry designer and adjunct professor at LSC-North Harris. She says her instincts first draw her to certain pieces. She then looks for composition, overall integrity and if there is a story behind the work in making her final decisions.
Mari Omori, LSC-Kingwood art professor, says these student art shows allow the art department to highlight their programs and also allows the students to have their work looked at by an outside, unbiased observer.
"Like any other field, there is someone making a judgment or putting a value on your work and this is an example of that," said Omori.
Most of the works on display will be for sale by the students.
The show will run Monday, April 20 through Monday, May 4. An opening reception and juror's talk will be held on Monday, April 20 from 12:30 - 2:30p.m. The LSC-Kingwood art gallery is located in the Student Center/Fine Arts Building. Gallery hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturdays by appointment. For additional information call 281-312-1534.
