LSC-Kingwood invites community to "Stellar Evening"

LSC-Kingwood invites community to “Stellar Evening”Lone Star College-Kingwood’s talented music faculty invites the community to the 21st annual “Stellar Evening”.

The faculty will perform a variety of selections on Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Instructional Building Recital Hall. Parking is available in lot G on Kingwood Place Drive. This year’s performers are audience favorites: Barbara Butler, Kelli Estes, Dr. Todd Miller, Pat Brink, and Dr. Robert Hunt.

“This is an entertaining night of music as our faculty perform their favorite ‘crowd pleaser’ pieces. Every piece is short and the listener hears a potpourri of different styles in the 75-minute concert,” Miller said.

The 25 music faculty at LSC-Kingwood represent the vibrant musical culture of Houston, from classical musicians to jazz performers to Broadway and cabaret singers. Many also work as church musicians, just as the great masters did in earlier times.

This annual event raises money for LSC-Kingwood’s Music Scholarship program. When “Stellar Evening” started in 1996, the college only had three voice students. Today, approximately 70 students are majoring in music and more than 200 students and community members perform in eight different ensembles.

"Stellar Evening" has been an integral part in growing the music department. This event has provided thousands of dollars for music scholarships, and the need for scholarships have never been greater,” Miller said.

General admission tickets to “Stellar Evening” are $25. The recital is followed by a meet-and-greet dessert reception. Reservations are recommended due to limited seating. Tickets may be purchased at lonestar.edu/UpcomingEvents. For more information, call Angie Spargur at 281-312-1709.
