LSC-Kingwood to hold dedication ceremony for process tech center

LSC-Kingwood to hold dedication ceremony for process tech centerAfter a tumultuous start to fall 2017 and a wintry beginning to spring 2018, Lone Star College-Kingwood opened its newest building on Jan. 18 with more than 800 students.

The Lone Star College-Process Technology Center houses the campus’s Process Technology program, which prepares students for entry-level careers as process technicians and operators. It is also the location for science and engineering classes with labs that were displaced from the Kingwood campus due to Hurricane Harvey. To celebrate the grand opening, a dedication ceremony will take place at the facility on March 6 at 9 a.m.

“After all the extensive damages that the college sustained because of the hurricane, we are very excited to open this beautiful center,” said Maribeth Stitt, dean of the business, technology, communications, and languages division at LSC-Kingwood. “Not only are we training students to have successful careers in the process technology field, we are also able to provide the needed classroom and lab space for our science and engineering students.”

The process technology program started in January 2017 at the LSC-Atascocita Center. Students are trained to work in the petrochemical, plastics, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. Upon successful completion, they can earn second-level certificates or an Associate of Applied Science degree.

The LSC-Process Technology Center offers state-of-the art simulation equipment, hands-on training, hands-on process training unit, applied technology, and general academic coursework. The 40,000 square feet facility is located at 14001 Lockwood Road. For more information on the center or program, visit, http://www.lonestar.edu/lsc-process-technology.htm.
