Register now for Discovery College at LSC-KingwoodLone Star College-Kingwood’s Discovery College offers a variety of fun and educational camps to keep children ages 6-14 entertained this summer.

Discovery College will take place June 12-29 and July 10-13. Parents are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible as spots fill up fast. Registration will take place in Classroom Building A (CLA), room 107. Programs are STEAM-focused and promote a true learning experience. Children are engaged in key areas like science, technology, engineering, art and math. Participants can also take courses in physical activity, performing arts and more.

“The purpose of Discovery College is to provide summer enrichment programs that allow kids to focus on their passion and have an increased interest in learning,” Pat Chandler, Continuing Education director.

Courses offered are Adventures in Art, Advanced Robotics, All-Sport Camp, Backyard Detectives, Bubbly Oozy Science, Building Simple Apps for Mobile Devices, Come Fly With Me, Cosmic Exploration, Crafty Creations, Digital Me, Divine Dessert Design, Duct Tape, Elementary Robotics, Game Design, Intro to Watercolor Painting, Junior Veterinarian, Lemonade Mogul and Rocket Science. All classes will be in Classroom Building B (CLB) with the exception of All-Sport Camp, which will be in the gymnasium. In addition, Discovery College is seeking volunteers age 16 and older to assist instructors in their classes or work in the office.

“My hope is that Discovery College provides each child with a positive learning environment that encourages exploration and builds interest in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and art while nurturing creativity and imagination to promote a life-long desire for learning,” said Kelly Corino, co-manager of Discovery College and a teacher at Creekwood Middle School.

Courses are available on a weekly basis, Mondays through Thursdays, with morning and afternoon sessions starting at $97. To register, parents/guardians need to submit completed consent and registration forms for each child.
