Salary:
Pharmacy Technician I
The salary range of the pharmacy tech I in the greater Houston area is $27,831-$34,552 annually ($13.38-$16.61 hourly). Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this technician compounds and dispenses medical prescriptions and may be expected to perform some clerical duties. The technician may receive and store incoming supplies; verify stock and enter data in computer to maintain inventory records, and may be expected to meet certain state certifications. Typically, the technician I reports to supervisor or manager.
Pharmacy Technician II
The salary range of the pharmacy tech II in the greater Houston area is $32,363-$40,325 annually ($15.56-$19.39 hourly). Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this technician compounds and dispenses medical prescriptions, and may be expected to perform some clerical duties. The technician may receive and store incoming supplies; verify stock and enter data in computer to maintain inventory records. This technician relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goal and may lead and direct the work of others. Typically, the technician II reports to supervisor or manager.
Pharmacy Technician Supervisor
The salary range of the pharmacy tech supervisor in the greater Houston area is $42,392-$54,536 annually ($20.38-$26.22). The supervisor oversees the work of a team of Pharmacy Technicians that are responsible for dispensing medical prescriptions. This person develops work schedules and hires and trains new employees; fills prescriptions and monitors stock as needed. The supervisor leads and directs the work of others. Typically, the pharmacy tech supervisor reports to department management. (HR reported data as of April 2009, salary.com)
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of pharmacy technicians is expected to increase 36 percent or more for all occupations through 2012 due to the increased pharmaceutical needs of a larger and older population, and to the greater use of medication. The increased number of middle-aged and elderly people—who, on average, use more prescription drugs than do younger people—will spur demand for technicians in all practice settings. With advances in science, more medications are becoming available to treat more conditions.1
