Licensure and Accreditation

In order to practice as a physical therapist assistant (PTA), a person must be licensed by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. To take the PTA licensing exam, a person must be a graduate of a PTA educational program which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.

Our program is nationally accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association (1111 N. Fairfax St., Alexandria, VA 22314-1488; 703.684.2782; http://www.apta.org/). The program received re-accreditation in April 2007.

CAPTE Program Outcomes Data    

Lone Star College-Montgomery PTA Program Student Outcome Data based on CAPTE AAR for 2011                     
  • Graduation Rate: 84% compared to a national average of 75%. This rate is calculated according to the CAPTE formula required in the AAR (which is consistent with the formula used by the federal Integrated Post-secondary Education Data System) for the class of 2011
  • Licensure Rate: 95%  compared to a national average of 86% and a state average of 91%.  This rate is published by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy 
  • Employment Rate: 100% This rate is the % of graduates who were employed as PTs or PTAs within six months of passing the licensure examination
