Types of Degrees & Certificates

Associate of Arts Degree (AA)

An Associate of Arts is an academic transfer degree designed for students who will ultimately be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at a four-year college/university. At LSC, the AA degree is a generalized degree that will not list a specific major but will be called Associate of Arts. Some AA Field of Study examples are Business, Criminal Justice, and Music.

Associate of Science Degree (AS)

An Associate of Science is an academic transfer degree designed for students who will ultimately be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at a four-year college/university. At LSC, the AS degree is a generalized degree that will not list a specific major but will be called Associate of Science. Some AS Field of Study examples are Computer Science, Biology, and Engineering.

Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS)

An Associate of Applied Science is a two-year degree plan designed for students who want to pursue short-term training so they can enter the workforce immediately.

Associate of Arts in Teaching Degree (AAT)

An Associate of Arts in Teaching is a two-year degree plan which satisfies the core requirements for baccalaureate programs at four-year institutions that lead to initial Texas teacher certification.

Certificate (CERT)

Certificates are specialized credit programs that train students in a specific field. Some certificates can be stacked and their earned credits applied toward an associate degree.

Fast Track

Fast Track, non-credit programs provide industry training which result in a workforce certificate. They are designed for quick entry into the workforce.
