Requesting Information

The Texas Public Information Act gives you, the public, the right to access government records. The Act is triggered only when a request is made in writing. The request must ask for records or information already in existence. The Act does not require a governmental body to create new information, to do legal research, or to answer questions.

The Texas Public Information Act specifically outlines charges that are applicable to public information including but not limited to copy charges, labor charges, programming fees and computer usage fees.

Although the Public Information Act makes most government information available to the public, some exceptions do exist. If LSCS believes the information is confidential, LSCS is required to seek a ruling from the Office of the Attorney General to determine confidentiality of the information.

All requestors will receive a written response within 10 business days from the date LSCS receives the request. To request public information, you may send your written request to the following:
