Computer Information Systems Undergraduate Courses

Computer Information Systems, BBA (CIS)
Course List Brochure (PDF)

The College of Business program in Computer Information Systems prepares graduates to enter the field of Information Technology.  Depending upon the suite of electives chosen by the individual student, he or she is prepared for a career as a systems analyst, data base manager, technical support analyst, programmer analyst, information technology project leader or information technology manager.  The CIS degree program is one of the largest degree programs at UHD and is also the fastest growing program, a situation that parallels the demand for the graduates in a wide range of industries and business markets.

The degree consists of 123 credit hours of which approximately 42 are general education courses.  All students seeking degrees from UHD must complete the core curriculum regardless of their major.  The collection of general education courses emphasizes the skills and knowledge important in all academic areas.  Students completing most of  the general education courses at any of the Lone Star College System campuses may apply for an Associate of Arts degree.  In addition to the general education core, students must also complete the required business core.

The CIS curriculum has been developed by the CIS Faculty with the assistance of an advisory board of industry experts having insight into the use of information technology in organizations and its effective management.

The staff members in the Academic Student Services Office at the LSC-UC assist all students in determining which program of study to pursue.  This includes providing information about the variety of programs available, reviewing transcripts to aid in identifying any courses to be completed before entering the program of choice, and serving as liaison between the student and university program representatives.  Students who have already earned an associate’s degree or have a substantial number of college academic credit hours should contact the Academic Student Services Office (936.273.7510 or 936.321.4500) for advising and to begin the transfer admission process for the university offering the degree program they desire to pursue.
