JOB SUMMARY

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Communicate with customers via the phone and in person about drugs, anesthesia, vaccinations, surgery related issues, post op instructions
· Prep, monitor and transport patients throughout the surgical workflow (from carriers to kennels, from kennel to prep table, from prep table to the surgical table, from surgical table to the recovery area, from the recovery area, to the kennels, from kennels back into carriers)
· Properly handle animals at all times during transporting to various areas and during restraining animals
· Maintain proper stock of supplies in all areas of the clinic
· Basic palpation
· Shaving, sterilizing, expressing bladders, intubation for preparation for surgery
· Maintain proper medical records which include but are not limited to: surgical records, prescriptions, drug logs, etc.
· Monitor recovering animals
· Clean kennels by following Texas Litter Control’s cleaning standards
· Make sterile surgical packs
· Draw blood, administer fluids, give injections of all types, look at specimens under microscope
· Laundry
· Mopping
· Perform other duties as assigned

Position: Patient Care Personnel  

Description: Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center opened in November 2014, and we are looking for energetic, enthusiastic patient care personnel with a passion for high quality medicine to join our team! Our Surgery Patient Care Personnel are responsible for maintenance of medical, anesthesia, and surgery records/logs, anesthesia induction and maintenance, cleaning and maintenance of surgical equipment, surgical preparation of patients, circulating in the operating room, scrubbing in to assist during surgical procedures, immediate pre and post-operative treatments and recovery of surgery patients.Our patient care personnel manage their cases with a variety of pre and post-op medication protocols, propofol induction, and isoflurane, sevoflurane or CRI maintenance. They continuously monitor their patients during surgery with the assistance of pulse oximetry, ECG, capnography and Doppler blood pressure.Candidates who are graduates of an AVMA approved Veterinary Technology Programs with LVT status are greatly desired.
