PUENTE Program

Lone Star College-North Harris launched the PUENTE Program in fall 2019. PUENTE is a nationally recognized, academic program designed to help students adjust to college life and prepare for transfer to a four-year university.

The Mission of the PUENTE Project is to increase the number of educationally underserved students who earn Associate Degrees and/or Certificates and who enroll in four-year institutions, and return to their community as mentors and leaders.

The program has three major components: accelerated writing instruction, advising and mentoring. Students have their own classes, their own counselor, and every semester, students are matched with professionals from the community who can provide them with knowledge and guidance about education, careers, and life. PUENTE provides its students with a strong academic foundation, essential for success at a four-year university.

PUENTE is co-sponsored by the University of California at Berkeley.
