Carlecia Wright

Carlecia Wright joined Lone Star College in February 2021 as the first Chief Diversity Officer. In this role, she serves as key member of the administration providing system wide to support recruitment, implement policies and programs, as well as develop community partnerships that foster equity and inclusion for students, faculty, and staff.

Previously, Carlecia served as the mayoral appointed Chief Diversity Officer and Director for the Office of Business Opportunity serving under Mayor Annise Parker and Mayor Sylvester Turner. Under Carleciaís focused and strategic direction, the City of Houston developed a renowned record for economic inclusion developing workforce programs after Hurricane Harvey that employed well over 1,000 individuals and awarded over $4 billion dollars to diverse businesses in her tenure, a strategy that has become a model for cities around the country.

She has received several awards for her achievements, in 2019 she was named a Women Who Means Business by Houston Business Journal and awarded the Community Advocate of the year by the Houston Black Chamber of Commerce. Additional recognitions include 2016 Women to Watch in Business by the Houston Chronicle, awarded 40 Under 40 by the Houston Business Journal.

She has a bachelorís degree from Columbia College of Chicago and a masterís degree from New York Universityís Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service. Carlecia is an Executive and Communications Coach with various certifications in community & stakeholder engagement, coaching, diversity, and leadership development. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and is a graduate of the City of New Yorkís Leadership Institute, the Center for Houstonís Future, Leadership Houston, and a Senior Fellow for the American Leadership Forum.

Laura Cardiel
Executive Director, Equity Analytics and Reporting

Laura Cardiel

Laura Cardiel joined the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) in March 2021 and became the Executive Director of Equity Analytics and Reporting as of June 2021. In this role, she develops diversity reports to support DEI planning in various aspects and levels at the college. Additionally, she develops analytical tools to capture data from LSC employees, students, and community members to inform DEI strategy.

Laura began her tenure at Lone Star College in 2014 in Outreach and Recruitment at LSC-Montgomery and then LSC-Tomball before moving to System Office. Her contributions to Outreach and Recruitment include various enhancements to the prospective student experience, recruitment marketing at the campus level, and facilitating the student application process. Most notable was her involvement with developing and implementing the Fast Pass initiative to boost student enrollment.

Prior to joining ODEI, Laura served as the Director of Governance, Equity and Records within the Office of Governance, Accountability, and Compliance. In this role, Laura developed employee diversity analytics and reporting for the college. She also established foundational DEI initiatives including the Diversity Action Committee, DEI publications, and operational definitions for diversity, equity, and inclusion. In collaboration with various LSC departments, her department helped to establish Advance Equity as an LSC Cultural Belief and include an additional DEI focus to Search Committee Training.

Laura earned her bachelorís and masterís degrees from Sam Houston State University and expects to complete her Doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2022. Laura is a member of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., and is involved in several national professional associations including the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators, the American Educational Research Association, and the Association for the Study of Higher Education, for which she was recently appointed a member of the inaugural Ethics Committee.
