Share Your LSC-CyFair Story
at the 2021 Commencement Ceremony!

Class of 2021 graduates, would you like to be our next commencement ceremony speaker? If you are selected, you will receive the distinguished honor of sharing your experience and insights, inspiring your fellow graduates and leaving a legacy at Lone Star College-CyFair!

Commencement will be held virtually on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 6:00 pm.

Speaker Criteria

• Completed or will complete a degree at Lone Star College-CyFair by Spring 2021
• Be in good academic and disciplinary standing

Suggested Speech Topics and Resources

You may consider addressing one or more of the following topics in your speech. These are just suggestions, and you are welcome to structure your presentation around other ideas. Some examples include collegiate life, coursework, co-curricular involvement, service, reflection on the mission and vision of Lone Star College-CyFair, and relationships developed with peers and others at the college.

• Your personal development and outlook for the future.
• How your personal experiences as a student shaped your educational journey at Lone Star College-CyFair and developed a desire for you to want to make a change in the world.
• If you think you can, you can. Tell your story of personal perseverance and how you ultimately reached your goals.
• How did someone else’s selflessness make you the person you are today. Tell the audience how you intend to pay it back or pay it forward.
• Share your experience of not letting others define who you are. How you found your inner voice and success.

Selection Criteria & Timeline

The most well received speeches are those that have the most meaning for the largest number of people in attendance, reflect on a common experience and in a personal way, share the value of the education they have received.

The Selection Committee will be seeking a speaker that best fits the following criteria:

• A message that suits the occasion: Does it suit the dignity of commencement? Does it relate to LSC-CyFair's values? Does it convey a message that is challenging and/or motivational? Is there a balance of personal story and message intended for the larger audience?
• A speaker who delivers the speech well and with presence: Does the speaker use voice, gestures and words effectively to engage and connect with the audience? Does the speaker have stage presence?

Selection Timeline

If chosen by the committee you must be available and able to meet the timeline requirements below.

• March 22 – Application deadline.
• March 29 – Finalists chosen.
• April 5 – Student commencement speaker announced.
• April 19 – Draft of speech due to committee. Student speaker continues to work with faculty/staff coach on their speech to ensure their preparation for the ceremony.
• May 13 – Speech rehearsal with executive team and commencement committee at the Berry Center.
• May 14 – Virtual commencement ceremony at 6 pm.

Application Requirements

• A short video testimonial (60 seconds) of interest telling us why we should pick you.
  Upload your finished video here.
• An outline of your proposed speech. Please keep in mind that the speech will run no more than 7-10 minutes.
• Provide the names of two LSC-CyFair faculty or staff references
