Evok to perform backup for Groban

Evok to perform backup for GrobanChristmas came a little early for Lone Star College-Kingwood students who are training for a career in music.

Evok (Eclectic Voices of Kingwood) will once again sing backup for Josh Groban at his Bridges Tour concert featuring Idina Menzel. The group will perform on Oct. 23 at the Toyota Center. Evok is the chamber choir at LSC-Kingwood.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to work with one of the premier singers of our time,” said Dr. Todd Miller, professor of music and conductor at LSC-Kingwood. “It is a great experience that cannot be replicated in a college setting, and gives each young singer an insight into the business and musical side of a performing career.”

After Evok’s performance with Groban, they will perform their fall concert, “Seasons,” on Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Atascocita United Methodist Church. The concert will weave a wide variety of music into the idea of seasons - from weather to seasons of life. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for students and seniors.

Evok mainly consists of LSC-Kingwood students, but there are also a few degreed professionals in the group. Evok performs a variety of eclectic styles such as classical, pop, Broadway, and Americana in their interactive concerts.
