Ryan Allen is a Houston native and first-generation college student who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from Texas Tech University. Upon completion of her degree, Ryan became an AmeriCorps member where she provided a year of service in Aldine ISD as a college and career access coach. She assisted underserved students, and their families, with college applications, financial aid, and career planning. After successfully completing her service term, Ryan became a Director at Blueprint Summer Programs where she coordinated a first-look experience on the UCLA campus for high school juniors and seniors. In search of a bigger impact on prospective college students, Ryan continued her higher education career as a Senior Admissions Counselor at Houston Baptist (Christian) University. As a counselor, Ryan was able to travel and meet with graduating seniors and college transfer students across the state of Texas. She presented information sessions, conducted campus tours, hosted FAFSA workshops, application fairs, and much more. Ryan’s higher education journey has led her to advising here at Lone Star college where she is excited to lend a helping hand and provide excellence customer

Through teaching at Lone Star College, I truly found my joy. I love experiencing the richness of diversity of all my students. My background in business, technology, financial services, and healthcare, supports me in making a difference in the lives of our students. I believe every student matters. One of the reasons I chose the teaching profession, more specifically workforce education, is to encourage positive and effective interpersonal skills, ethical business practices, and to ensure that our future generation of leaders are well equipped to make good choices that lead to a fulfilled life. In my classroom, I promote values such as authenticity, integrity, trust, and honesty for these are my personal values that I bring to every relationship. According to Grayson Kirk, “The most important function of education at any level is to develop the personality of the individual and the significance of his or her life to him or herself and to others."

I love marketing, and I’m sure that shows in class.  It gets the students excited about marketing.  Marketing is so pervasive in our society, the class always has examples they want to share in class. I listen to every story with great interest, as does the rest of the class.  Then we see how that affects their lives.  They are amazed at what they learn along the way. And they never cease to amaze me with their input. I’ve been here 20+ years, and they still cease to amaze me class after class.

Business, Management and Leadership are everywhere. No matter which industry you choose you will undoubtedly come across these issues. That is why I love this subject matter. It is like me versatile and adaptable. I approach my classes like a business. The students are my clients, and my goal is to provide high client satisfaction through the instruction of my class.
