2 August 2018

The closing of portions of SH 249 near Baker Road has been pushed back to midnight tonight. The circumstances announced on Monday and outlined below will now be in place through August 12.

Between Friday, August 3 and Sunday, August 12, portions of SH 249 at Baker Road will be inaccessible. During this time, your access to the LSC-Tomball main campus will depend on which direction you are travelling on SH 249.

If you are travelling north (coming from Willowbrook/Tomball): You must proceed past Baker Road to Zion Road. The Zion Road entrance to campus will be open to allow northbound traffic to enter campus.

If you are travelling south (coming from Magnolia): You may enter campus either at the Zion Road entrance or proceed down to the Baker Road entrance and turn right onto our campus drive.

Note: The Baker Road entrance will only be available to those travelling southbound and entering campus or to those travelling southbound when they leave campus. You will NOT be able to turn left (northbound) onto SH 249 from the Baker Road entrance during this time.

As always, show extreme caution when travelling in and around construction areas. Truck traffic will be particularly heavy this week and we depend on your vigilance to ensure everyone remains safe.

The Zion Road entrance will close again after August 3. This entrance is scheduled to be reopened prior to the start of the fall semester.

As always, show extreme caution when travelling in and around construction areas. Truck traffic will be particularly heavy this week and we depend on your vigilance to ensure everyone remains safe.

16 July 2018

The new SH 249 northbound feeder lanes will open tomorrow, Tuesday July 17, at 5 am.

Please be aware of the new traffic signals and signs when travelling to and leaving the campus. Use extreme caution because construction will still be taking place in the middle lanes.

21 June 2018

Due to this week’s rainy weather, the traffic switch on the northbound lanes of SH 249 has been pushed back a couple of weeks. It is still, imminent, however, so please continue to heed all posted signs and directional indicators. Also, please continue to be aware of heavy truck traffic in and around the area.

Thank you for your patience.

12 June 2018

Please be aware that in the near future, there will be another traffic switch on SH 249. This time, traffic will move from the northbound lanes of the original road to the new feeder lanes.

Please heed all posted signs and directional indicators. Also, please continue to be aware of heavy truck traffic in and around the area.

Thank you for your patience.

29 May 2018

As of Thursday, May 31st the North entrance (Zion Rd) will be closed indefinitely due to heavy truck traffic from the 249 road construction project.

We appreciate your patience during this project.

Thank you for your continued patience.

3 May 2018

A traffic incident has been reported at the Baker Street entrance to the LSC-Tomball main campus. Please use caution when exiting and entering the college ring road and allow for extra travel time.

Thank you for your continued patience.

30 April 2018

BE AWARE: A significant change is scheduled to take place at 9 pm on Tuesday, May 1, on SH 249 in front of the LSC-Tomball main campus.

There will be a southbound traffic lane switch at this time. Vehicles traveling into Tomball from the Magnolia area to the north will be diverted to new lanes of traffic – what will eventually be the southbound feeder road.

The traffic lights on these new lanes are significantly CLOSER to campus than the original lights.
It is IMPERATIVE that as you leave campus, you exercise extreme caution and pay close attention to the location of the new lights.

PLEASE NOTE: This is HCTRA’s (Harris County Toll Road Authority) planned opening date and if there are any changes, you will be notified through this email process as soon as we are.

Again, heed very closely the location of the new traffic lights as you exit campus beginning tomorrow evening. They are CLOSER to campus than the lights in place today.

26 April 2018

Final work is being done to prepare for the opening of the southbound feeder road on SH 249 just in front of our main campus. Subsequently, THIS SATURDAY, April 28, work will be done at each of the college entrances which will require their respective closing.

The entrances will be shut on an alternating schedule as follows:

  • The entrance at Zion Road will be closed from 7 am to noon
  • The entrance at Baker Road will be closed from noon to 5 pm.

Thank you for your continued patience and caution in all construction areas.

18 April 2018

BE AWARE: There is currently very heavy truck traffic coming in and out of both campus entrances. Please be particularly mindful of these vehicles as they travel SH 249 and turn onto the newly constructed feeder roads in front of the main campus.

Thank you for your continued patience and caution in all construction areas.

10 April 2018

When travelling on SH 249, please be attentive and watch for an impending traffic switch on the southbound side. Traffic will be directed to new or temporary lanes while construction continues. Please remember to be mindful of trucks and signage.

Thank you for your continued patience and caution during this time.

25 January 2018

We want to keep everyone informed regarding the situation with the traffic lights at the entrances to our main campus.

Personnel in our Facilities department are in regular contact with HCTRA (Harris County Toll Road Authority) who, in turn, contacts TXDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) for issues with the lights.

The timing at the lights was monitored this morning and the light at Zion Road was timed at 20.2 seconds; approximately 5-6 cars made it onto campus. The light at the new South drive was timed at 20.5 seconds and approximately 8-10 cars turned onto the new drive.

The delay in further adjustment is that HCTRA and TXDOT are waiting for Centerpoint to install new utility poles at the new entrance. Once that is done, new lights with better timing will be installed.

Thank you for your continued patience and caution during this time.

23 January 2018

The new south entrance to the LSC-Tomball main campus is NOW OPEN.

Access to the new entrance begins at the intersection of Baker Road and SH 249.

We have asked that the length of the Zion Road traffic light be extended, but we still encourage those of you coming to the south side of campus to use the new entrance to alleviate traffic at the Zion Road intersection.

Thank you for your continued patience and caution during this time.

Remain alert and cautious in and around the front of our property, particularly in the driveway areas.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and caution during this time.

28 September 2017

PLEASE EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN EXITING VIA THE SOUTH ENTRANCE

The south entrance to campus (the one nearest the library) underwent changes last weekend when crews re-drew the three southbound lanes of traffic. There is currently no shoulder at the entrance and the lane of traffic nearest the college abuts directly to our driveway.

When waiting at the light to exit via the south entrance, please use care and do not to pull up beyond the concrete barrier into SH 249 traffic.

When entering the campus, avoid the backup at the first entrance to the college (if you are traveling north on 249, from Tomball).  Go to the second entrance at Zion Road for easier access, especially during the morning rush.

We will all be grateful when the new south entrance off Baker Drive is complete later next year. Until that time, however, we appreciate your continued patience and the special care we must all take as we negotiate this construction.

12 September 2017

The south entrance to campus (the one nearest the library) will be closed this Friday, September 15 at 5 am, and will  remain closed through Sunday, September 17.

All those entering campus during this time, including library patrons, will need to enter and exit through the Zion Road entrance.

Thank you for your continued patience.

15 August 2017

Zion Road Entrance – The entrance to campus at Zion Road is still scheduled to be open by Monday, August 21. When using the newly fashioned drive, please heed all posted directional signs.

South Entrance – Work continues on the new south driveway. Construction vehicle traffic is heavy in that area, so please proceed carefully as you enter and exit at that location.

As a continued reminder, construction work is not only taking place at our entrances, but also on SH 249 itself. Occasional detours may be required, but there will always be a way to enter campus when the college is open.

Remain alert and cautious in and around the front of our property.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and caution during this time.

10 August 2017

REMINDER: Due to a full water service shut-off tomorrow, Friday, August 11, the entire LSC-Tomball main campus will be closed. This includes the LSC-Tomball Community Library. The shut-off is related to the on-going construction at the front of our campus.

Water service will be restored by and campus will be open on Saturday.

Thank you for your continued patience and caution during this time.

9 August 2017

As construction work continues and intensifies at and near our college entrances, there may be times at which various traffic lanes will be closed and vehicles redirected. Although we strive to provide you as much advance notice as possible, these closures often occur with little to no warning, so do not always allow time for us to communicate them to you in advance.

Please be advised: when the college is open, there will always be a means to enter the LSC-Tomball campus. If you are preparing to enter campus in your vehicle, only to find yourself redirected before being able to do so, please patiently follow all instructions provided to you by traffic patrol personnel. You may need to re-route and enter the campus from another direction. This is not ideal, we understand, but may occasionally be the case through this entire construction period.

As employees return for Welcome Week and students return for fall, traffic at the entrances to campus may become more congested. Continue to use caution when entering and exiting campus. Faculty, please encourage your students to do the same when you orient them as classes start.

We appreciate your patience as we all carefully navigate the changes at the front of campus.

8 August 2017

Due to a full water service shut-off this Friday, August 11, the entire LSC-Tomball campus will be closed. This includes the LSC-Tomball Community Library. The shut-off is related to the on-going construction at the front of our campus.

Water service will be restored by and campus will be open on Saturday.

Thank you for your continued patience and caution during this time.

31 July 2017

Over this last weekend, crews started pouring concrete for our entrance at Zion Road. Completion is anticipated by August 21.

The construction of the new south driveway – which will eventually be accessed at Baker Drive - is well underway. Please be vigilant and aware of the dump trucks and other equipment as you enter and exit campus.

Thank you for your patience and caution during this time.

25 May 2017

NOTE: FULL CAMPUS CLOSURE – May 20 and 21

Due to work being done on the expansion of SH 249, the natural gas will be turned off for two days – Saturday, May 20, and Sunday, May 21. This will require the complete closure of the LSC-Tomball main campus on these two days. This includes the Vet Tech Building and the Performing Arts Center.

During this time, backup generator power will not be available.  Therefore, anything that relies on the generators must be shut off by the end of business on Friday, May 19.

While the electricity will remain on in the buildings, the generators will not come on in the event of a power failure, which means that elevators and emergency lighting are not available to help college personnel, students, and visitors safely exit the buildings in the event of an emergency.  Further, electrical devices could be damaged.

We apologize for this inconvenience, but it’s important that we continue to provide employees and visitors with as safe an environment as possible during the expansion of SH 249.

3 May 2017

Week of May 8-14, Monday - Sunday
The exit lanes at the north entrance to the campus (at Zion Road) will be closed for the week for equipment movement. You will be able to enter the campus at this entrance, but you will not be able to leave the campus via the Zion Road light. This exit will be closed for the entire week.

The lot clearing is almost complete on either side of campus, as well as at the front along SH 249. Crews will now begin the process of digging and re-locating utility lines.

We’d like to request that drivers use caution when entering campus via either entrance, but particularly the north (Zion Road) entrance.
