Procedures for Filing

Note: Our offices are currently closed, with employees working remotely. All filing will be by appointment only. To make an appointment to file, please email helen.clougherty@lonestar.edu or call Helen Clougherty at 832-813-6514. 

We will be available without an appointment on the first day of filing, Monday, July 20 and the last day of filing, Monday, August 17. Please email helen.clougherty@lonestar.edu or call Helen Clougherty at 832-813-6514 when you arrive so that we can meet you to let you into the building.

In lieu of filing in person, candidates may also email their filing documents to helen.clougherty@lonestar.edu 

  1. Applications will be accepted in the Chancellorís Office in The Woodlands Leadership Building at 5000 Research Forest Drive, The Woodlands beginning Monday, July 20, 2020 through Monday, August 17, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by appointment only. Please note that the office is closed on Friday, July 24, Friday, July 31, and Friday, August 7.  A filing fee of $200 or a petition signed by 200 registered voters (residents of the district for which the candidate is filing) is due at the time the application is filed.  Deadline for filing is Monday, August 17, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
  2. Read and complete the Application, sign and have notarized, and file with the Chancellorís office.
  3. The $200 filing fee will be accepted in the form of cash, certified check, money order or credit card.  No personal checks will be accepted.  You may pay ahead of time with credit card at Lone Star College Marketplace. Please select LSC Ė System Office Online Payments, then the Board of Trustee Filing Fee link.
  4. The petition will be verified in accordance with Election code requirements found in Sections 141.062 and 141.063.  A copy of the applicable code is available on http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/EL/htm/EL.141.htm
  5. Candidates must name a treasurer before accepting or expending campaign funds.  Please note that the filing fee is considered a campaign expense.  Candidates may also name a campaign manager, but a designated treasurer is required.
  6. Drawing for placement on ballot is scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2020 at 5:15 p.m. at the Lone Star College System Office, Woodlands Leadership Building Room 133, 5000 Research Forest Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77381.  Candidates will be asked to sign a statement confirming the exact spelling of their names as it is to be printed on the ballot.
  7. First Campaign Expenditure Report is due Monday, October 5, 2020 by 5:00 p.m. in the Chancellorís office. 
  8. Second Campaign Expenditure Report is due Monday, October 26, 2020 by 5:00 p.m. in the Chancellorís office.
  9. Third and final Campaign Expenditure Report is filed when the candidate does not expect to accept any further campaign contributions or make or authorize any further campaign expenditures.  There is not an established reporting deadline for filing this report.
