For more than fifteen years, Jackie Doorbar has been a dedicated member of the Continuing Education team at Lone Star College North Harris. In her role as a Specialist III, she supports healthcare students as they work toward their academic and professional goals, guiding them with patience and compassion.
Jackie’s path to education is a unique one. Born and raised in Houston, she spent many years working in international commerce before moving to England, where she and her husband ran a corporate design and print company. While living abroad, she discovered her love for working with students while working at a primary school in Eastbourne, East Sussex. She worked closely with children who had special needs and found a true passion for helping others learn and grow.
When she returned to Houston, a family connection led her to a temporary position with Lone Star College Kingwood during the iStar transition. She quickly realized she had found her calling. “I immediately loved working with students and helping them succeed,” Jackie says. “It is rewarding to see how education can open doors and change lives.”
Her experiences abroad helped her develop empathy, adaptability, and understanding. “Living in another country taught me how to adjust and communicate across cultures,” she says. “It helps me relate to international students who are navigating a new environment.”
Jackie takes pride in helping students stay focused and confident as they balance school, work, and family. “Our students are determined and resilient,” she says. “When they reach their goals, it is a proud moment for all of us who supported them.”
She credits the leadership and team at North Harris for creating a supportive environment that encourages both students and employees to thrive. “Our leadership is student-focused and kind,” she says. “It is a positive place to work, and my coworkers have truly become like family.”
Outside of work, Jackie enjoys spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, and reconnecting with her love of music. She studied piano for more than a decade and still finds joy and calm in returning to it. “Music has always been a part of my life,” she says. “It reminds me to slow down and appreciate the little things.”
Her outlook on life and work reflects the steady encouragement she offers to students every day. “Be passionate about what you do,” Jackie says. “Stay committed, be kind, and believe in yourself. With dedication and effort, you can achieve more than you think possible.”
Through her years of service, Jackie has become a trusted colleague and a steady source of encouragement for students. Her care, professionalism, and dedication continue to make a lasting impact on the Continuing Education programs at Lone Star College North Harris.
