Experience a Meditative Reflection of Nature in the “Soft Bloom” Art Show at LSC-CyFair

Among the collection of graphite drawings and small installations displayed March 5-April 16 is this “Milky Moon Bloom”.

Join Hillaree Hamblin to share in “a collection of works honoring her deep awe and reverence for the natural world” in her upcoming “Soft Bloom” Bosque Gallery exhibition at Lone Star College-CyFair on display March 5 – April 16.

“Composed of both abstracted graphite drawings and small installations, this exhibition highlights the meditative benefits of engaging with the organic, a long-held through line within my practice,” said Hamblin. “Whether through unearthed marred surfaces or clusters of collected ephemera sprouting from glass vials, this series asks the viewer to pause and reflect on wonders and curiosities to be found within the everyday. I invite visitors to proceed slowly through the space, resting in stillness, moving in the same manner as nature chooses to unfold: at a pace not to be rushed, bound by no timeline but its own.”

Hamblin, who considers herself a soft sculptor, has shown her work in Germany, London and at various art spaces around Houston, including Lawndale Art Center, The Tank Space and Box 13 Artspace.

Beyond her studio work, which “centers around the idea of preserving experience and giving memory a physical form,” Hamblin teaches art students of various ages, 3rd grade through college, and is also an organizer for the local art collective Open MFA.

Meet the artist at the opening reception set for 5:30 p.m. March 12 and return for an insightful Library Art Talk at 1:30 p.m. April 9 to learn more about the creative processes behind this spring’s art exhibition.

Be sure to save the date April 23 for the student art awards reception and wearable art fashion show that kicks off the end-of-the-semester opportunity to view and purchase unique and award-winning student artwork on display through May 8.
