Look no further than Lone Star College-CyFair for two exhilarating musical evenings this March first with a cultural exploration of Latin-American music and then a heartfelt, inspiring choral celebration.
The Discovery Recital Series continues March 6 with “Melodías de la Herencia: Exploring Nationalism and Western Influences in Latin-American Music.”
This 6 p.m. program, highlighting how composers across Latin America fused Indigenous, Afro-descendant and European traditions to create distinct national musical identities, is presented in collaboration with the college’s Latin American Student Organization (LASO). Among the featured artists are Ecuadorian soprano Andrea Salazar, pianist from South Korea Mr. Yong Goo Kim and vocalist from Ecuador Dr. Wagner Mauricio Pástor.
"This unique lecture-recital blends the performing arts and academic research that make our campus culture so rich. The audience will be entertained while gaining new global perspectives gleaned from the artists’ doctoral work,” said Dr. Brian Herrington, founding curator of this series. “Students enrolled in my Music Literature International Studies course will also participate in a Q&A in preparation for their own lecture-recitals later this semester."
Join the LSC-CyFair choirs March 13 for a curated celebration - “Consider It Pure Joy!” - designed to uplift the spirit, inspire and bring a smile to faces.
“We have gathered a collection of works that burst with vibrant energy and playful charm, offering heartfelt music that speaks directly to the soul,” said Dr. Paulo Gomes, who will be conducting the LSC-CyFair Chamber Singers and Concert Choir. “Our journey this evening is not just about singing; it’s about feeling the infectious rhythms and soaring harmonies that transcend everyday life.”
This 7:30 p.m. program, also featuring Eunae Lee on the piano and Mario Zelaya on the violin, will include works from composers Finzi, Elgar, Whitacre, Hagen, Lim and Brahms.
